- Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (VAM) is a group of symbiotic fungi, which can mobilize major nutrients like, phosphorus and potassium and certain micronutrients like zinc, calcium, iron, magnesium and manganese. Mycorrhizal inoculation enhanced absorption water, storage and movement back into plants and enhances tolerance to drought. Mycorrhizae produce specific antibiotics, which immobilize and kill soil borne pathogens. Mycorrhizal inoculation reduces the chemical fertilizer application up to 40% from recommended dose and increases the yield 30- 40% in tuber crops especially, onion, garlic, potato, sugarbeet, sweet potato etc.,
Mode of action:
- The network of mycorrhizal fungal filaments established simultaneously inside the roots and the surrounding rhizosphere soil to which the root system has access. Water and minerals from the soil are easily available resulting in a better nutritive equilibrium. These result in an increase in plant resistance to environmental stress such as drought, chilling and the detrimental effect of some root pathogens.
